On April 30th, it was enacted the Municipal Law no. 17.340/2020, published in the Municipal Official Journal of São Paulo on May 1st 2020, which provides for protective public health and assistance measures, including extensions and suspensions of permits terms, due to Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).
Among its main provisions, the law provides that the validity of the urban licenses may be extended for 1 (one) year. The provision is applicable for the permits that have been issued up to the date of publication of the law and the ones that will be issued within 6 (six) months from the publication of the law.
The permits that are subjected to an extension are those included in Municipal Laws Nos. 16,642/2017 (Municipal Construction Code), 10,205/1986 (Municipal Law that provides for the Operation and Installation License Permit), 16,402/2016 (Municipal Law that provides for the Use and Occupation of the Land), 15.499/2011 (Municipal Law that provides for the Conditioned Operation and Installation Permit), and the Municipal Decree No. 49,969/2008 which regulates the issuance of various permits, such as the Operation and Installation Permit.

The Law entered into force on the date of its publication and will remain in force as long as the calamity of the public health sector of the city of São Paulo lasts.
